Cottage Garden with a View

On a hillside in Brookline this stately English Tudor home has a commanding view of the Boston skyline. The client wanted a landscape in the tradition of the English cottage garden. I wondered if such a garden could compete with the beauty of the massive sycamore trees that line the streets of this neighborhood.  The end result is a harmonious combination of colorful perennials, a Goshen stone patio and fire pit, and bright yellow David Austin roses that dance around a custom wrought iron arbor. Curved stonework adds movement and texture while an alee of espalier trees stand guard over the backyard. The inviting scent of lavender, roses, and tall garden phlox bring pollinators to the garden and great joy to this family.
