Landscape Design Process

Our designer, Estelle Espe-Chase, has experience in designing landscape master plans that may involve complicated hardscape spaces, or simple garden layouts. Our unique husband and wife team bring a rich background of experience in design and construction in order to craft beautiful, resilient, and enduring landscapes that are rich in color, texture, form, and function. We strive to make your landscape beautiful and interesting throughout all four seasons of the year.

The Consultation Process

We start with a meaningful and honest consultation on your property to discuss your project, your vision, and your budget. This engagement encourages participation in the design process from conception through completion.  We listen carefully, not imposing our preferences, but guiding your vision. Following this consultation we may enter into a design agreement.

Site Analysis and Design Development

A site analysis begins by measuring and witnessing the ‘genius loci’ of the property or ‘spirit of the place’. Capturing this spirit is the only way to achieve a landscape design that will be in harmony with the setting and work with your lifestyle.  In the case of new construction, we will incorporate data and information from site engineers and architects.  In the beginning an invaluable tool we often use is a Photoshop mock-up of the proposed area or areas to be landscaped. We think you will enjoy seeing the possibilities to transform your property through this digital process!

The Final Design and Implementation

Through nursery visits, color photos, and material selection reviews, the final landscape design document accurately communicates the vision for your property with your input at the heart of the process. Garden Mates advocates conserving the natural resources of the site by following sustainable design methods of construction, using regional sources for materials, specifying native plant material whenever possible. As an additional service, Garden Mates will recommend the very best installation crews and manage the project from start to finish.
